Bruce Smith becomes President of the Rotary Club of San Marcos on July 1, 2021. Bruce first became a Rotarian in 1991 in Fairbanks, Alaska. In 1994 he moved to Vermillion, South Dakota and joined the Rotary club there, becoming President in 1996 and Asistant District Governor the following year.  He moved to San Marcos in 2000 and joined the Rotary Club here.
 
Bruce worked in media for more than 20 years, mostly in radio and television. He then became a university academic, and served as Chair of journalism and mass communication programs in Alaska and South Dakota, and eventually as Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University, from which he retired in 2015. He holds B.A., M.S., M.B.A. and Ed.D. degrees.
 
His major personal interest is travel. He has been to all seven continents, including Antarctica, and visited many dozens of countries. He has also attended Rotary meetings in many different countries.
