ROTARY  CASINO NIGHT HONORS DICK BURDICK WITH SCHOLARSHIP AT TEXAS STATE

The Rotary Club of San Marcos is hosting a Mardi Gras theme Casino Night fundraiser on Friday, February 13 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. La Cima will serve as the Presenting Sponsor for the event.

Proceeds support a variety of Rotary club service projects, including funding for the new “Dick Burdick / Rotary International Scholarship” in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University. This scholarship benefits students who are committed to studying international business.

Richard L. "Dick" Burdick, 1929-2018, was a longtime San Marcos resident who founded Thermon, an international industrial heating business, a leader in the field of heat tracing systems, with affiliates worldwide. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, including serving on the Boy Scout’s National Board of Directors.

In 1971 Burdick joined the Rotary Club of San Marcos and maintained perfect attendance until his death in 2018. He served as 1989-90 District Governor of Rotary District 5840, in South Central Texas.

One of Burdick’s other well-known passions was antique automobiles. He founded the Central Texas Museum of Automotive History in Rosanky, Texas in 1982. In July 2009, he opened Dick's Classic Garage in San Marcos. His love for antique automobiles and racing included 25 years of participation in an annual event called the Great American Race, an 11-day transcontinental antique car rally. He consistently placed among the top finishers driving cars such as a 1924 Bentley Racer and a 1916 Hudson Speedster.

The venue for the Casino will be the Centex Wing of the Commemorative Air Force Museum, 2249 Airport Road,  San Marcos. There will be casino games, Cajun food, beer and wine, prizes and a $15,000 diamond raffle. The Museum hanger will be festively decorated for the Sweethearts’ Mardi Gras theme.
