Bobbie Garza-Hernandez Speaks to Rotary About the Upcoming Sacred Springs Powwow
Bobbie Garza-Hernandez shares information with Rotary on October 1st about the upcoming Sacred Springs Powwow in San Marcos.

The October 4-5 Sacred Springs Powwow will be held at the Meadows Center. Organized by the nonprofit Indigenous Cultures Institute, it is a celebration of culture featuring art, music, dance, and food from across Native America. Crowds of over 6,000 attendees enjoy traditional drumming and dancing, a market of over 50 arts and crafts vendors, and a Native Cultures Tent of storytellers, musicians, and educational programming.

The powwow is set on the shores of Spring Lake, which is the longest continually inhabited location in North America and serves as a sacred site to the
local indigenous Coahuiltecan people.

A San Marcos native with deep Indigenous and Mexican American heritage, Hernandez is the founder of Pink PR, a firm dedicated to giving voice to
minority communities, advocating for fair business practices and ensuring that historically marginalized groups have a seat at the table.  Hernandez was born into a family with seven generations of history in San Marcos, and her upbringing was shaped by her parents’ commitment to civil rights and community activism. She is a graduate of St. Edward’s University, Austin.
