

Dr. Michael A. Cardona became Superintendent of Schools for the San Marcos CISD in 2016. He will update the Rotary Club of San Marcos about the school system’s accomplishments and challenges on Wednesday, September 3 at noon. Rotary meets at the VFW Hall at 1701 Hunter Road, and visitors are always welcome at meetings.
Cardona earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University-College Station in Political Science. In 1995 he completed a Master of Education degree from Texas A&M-Kingsville, and in 2021 received a Doctor of Education degree from Texas A&M University-College Station in Educational Leadership and Administration.
Among his accomplishments while leading the SMCISD, he introduced dual language programs, launched an Early College model, and secured key grants like GEAR Up to support student success. Under his leadership, students gained access to 21 career pathways, a state-of-the-art STEAM Center, and comprehensive support services including SEL counselors and clinical therapists.
The Rotary Club of San Marcos is nonprofit, nonpolitical, and nonreligious. It is one of the oldest Rotary clubs in Texas, receiving its charter in 1921.
