March is Rotary International's Water & Sanitation Month
 
 
Thankfully, in San Marcos, and for a majority of US citizens, when we're thirsty we have only to turn a key to access a abundant source of clean water to drink, clean, bathe in, water our gardens, give drink to our pets, and to carry away our waste. This is our norm. But, for the world's bottom billion, those whose cost of living affords less than $2.00 a day, this is not so.
 
In Kenya alone, 20 million people do not have access to clean water and 70 million have no access to sanitation. Because of this, parasitic ailments and disease from fecal contamination contributes to a national life expectancy of Finding water in Kenya is a requirement of survival that takes massive amounts of work hours. It is common for a Kenyan to spend up to 8 hours a day to bring water to their home to drink, prepare meals, wash, and bathe in - a nightmare.
Essentially, the entire workforce of Kenya spends more time hauling water than producing capital.
 
Ten years ago my wife and I were in Kenya visiting pastors that our church supported. Over a period of years our church had partnered with others to provide a church house, parsonage, and well for several congregations there.
