Dr. Steven Beebe speaks to the Rotary Club of San Marcos about his new book about author C.S. Lewis on Wednesday, September 7 at noon. The book, titled “C.S. Lewis and the Craft of Communication” is a  comprehensive review of Lewis’s work revealing five communication principles that explain his success as a communicator. Lewis is famous among children for his “Chronicles of Narnia” series, but he is  also well known as a Christian writer of such books as “Mere Christianity” and “Miracles.”

Beebe draws on Lewis’s advice about communication in his books, essays, and letters. Lewis believed a skilled communicator must be holistic, intentional, transpositional, evocative, and audience centered. The acronym HI TEA memorably summarizes these five principles. Lewis taught at Oxford University in England and Beebe has spent years researching his life and work there.

Beebe was chair of the Department of Communication Studies for many years at Texas State University. He is also a past president of the National Communication Association and an internationally recognized communication author and educator. He is the author and co-author of numerous textbooks about communication used in college classrooms across the country.
